The Southwest Museum of the American Indian explores American Indian histories and cultures, with the cooperation and involvement of American Indians, in order to advance knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of diverse indigenous peoples. Founded in 1907 by Charles Lummis and members of the
Southwest Society, it has the distinct honor of being the oldest museum in the city of Los Angeles. The collection of the Southwest Museum encompasses a span of more than 2,000 years and represents Native American cultures from Alaska to South America.

Hours: The Southwest Museum is now on "Limited
Access" and will only be open on Friday and Saturday from 12:00–5:00
pm. Admission is free to all visitors during reconstruction, renovation
and conservation of the collection.
