Wondering what to do in Los Angeles?

February 11th, 2010 by admin

Sunset in LA

LA is famous for its sprawl. This reputation is enough to scare visitors away from making a quick trip to the City. But even if you have a reason to stop while flying through LAX or if you can drive into town for a couple nights, Los Angeles can be a surprisingly rewarding place for a short visit.

Making plans for a trip to LA can be overwhelming because there are so many options.  If you’re into sightseeing, I recommend the Go Los Angeles Card.  It aggregates 40 top museums, tours and attractions from across the area onto a single ticket. It is priced to save you money compared to buying separate tickets. Buy it for the number of days you need and you only need to see 2 or 3 things to see the savings add up.

One popular destinations for visitors to LA is Hollywood.  Here you can take pictures under the Hollywood sign at the Kodak Theatre, take walking tours with Red Line Tours, jump on the double decker bus tour, visit the Hollywood Museum, and the Wax Museum all on one block.   Parking is very easy and inexpensive at Hollywood and Highland ($2-$6 with validation), so you can park early in the day and spend the rest of your time on foot.  In Hollywood, it’s easy to see a lot in just one day, and the Go LA Card covers pretty much anything you would want to see.

Reviews of Go Los Angeles Card

April 22nd, 2009 by admin

Last Summer, over 1300 Smart Destinations customers were interviewed by a third party research firm (KRC Research). They were asked about their experiences buying and using the company’s Go Card and Explorer Passes.

94% of the customers surveyed said they were either “satisfied” or “extremely satisfied.” And most of that 94% said they were “extremely satisfied.”

The reasons why customers were so overwhelmingly positive about the Go Card experience were primarily:

  • The quality and quantity of the attractions that accept the card for admission
  • The fact the card was convenient and easy to use
  • The fact that it saved them money compared to having to buy separate tickets at each attraction

Another key finding of the research was that 91% of the customers surveyed would recommend a Go Card or Explorer Pass to someone else.

So if you are considering buying a Go Los Angeles Card, it is nice to know that previous customers have such strongly positive reviews of the product.

If you’re looking for a great place to see live concerts, nationally broadcast award shows, or hilarious comedians, the 7,100 seat Nokia Theatre is the latest addition to the L.A. scene.

Opened in October 2007, the first six concerts at the venue were completely sold out, but the theatre plans to host about 120 events per year. That certainly means that you’re sure to find something to fit your tastes and style, plus get your hands on some tickets!

After hosting the American Music Awards, their first venture in hosting award shows, the venue was a complete hit. They’ve got an awesome upcoming lineup including Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, Larry the Cable Guy, and the Moody Blues, so be sure and get your tickets early and enjoy the show.

Fire Update for 10/29

October 29th, 2007 by susan j

If you’re planning a trip to southern California, then you’ll be happy to hear that fire crews managed to contain all fires within San Diego city limits this weekend. The air quality has improved and tourist attractions have reopened for business, so you should be set for a great trip.

To help travelers whose travel plans have already been impacted by the fires, several airlines including American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and US Airways have decided to waive their flight-change fees, saving passengers up to $100 each.

Fire Update for 10/26/2007

October 26th, 2007 by carrie t

As of Thursday, October 25, the California wildfires are slowing down and, fortunately, many are already contained. There are still plenty of places in the region that have not been affected at all.

Most of the fires in Los Angeles have already been contained, and since the fires are northeast of most towns in LA, tourists can still enjoy the main tourist areas such as Long Beach, San Pedro, Manhattan Beach, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Downtown, and even Santa Monica without any problems. It’s actually a beautiful day today in Los Angeles.

Since thousands of Californians have been evacuated and many have lost their homes, help is needed to rebuild communities in Southern California. You can volunteer or donate money through the American Red Cross.

Of course, another way to help rebuild the region is to plan a vacation in Southern California! Look for travel specials online through Expedia and other online operators.

Right now Socal has amazing sunrises and sunsets due to the fact that the ash and smoke in the air scatters out the light from the sun and magnifies the hues. It’s quite beautiful and if you’re up close to the ocean you’ll see the waves sparkling with a rainbow of colors. (See above for a photo taken on Manhattan Beach on Tuesday evening.)

Visit the LA Times for more updates.
