Get a spiny hug from a sea urchin, feel a knobby sea star or sticky sea anemone, and experience the sea water spray of a swell shark when you visit the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. The aquarium, operated by the environmental organization Heal the Bay, is home to some 100 species of organisms, including moray eels, octopus, sharks, rays, and a variety of fish and invertebrates–all examples of the animals found just a short stroll away in the Santa Monica Bay. The popular shark-themed Sundays include shark related arts and crafts, story time, films and a presentation and feeding at the shark tank. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and volunteers enrich the hands-on experience at this compact aquarium, where the wonder of discovery of the marine environment inspires conservation and stewardship.

Hours: Tuesday–Friday, 2:00 pm–6:00 pm;
Saturday–Sunday, 12:30 pm–6:00 pm
Closed: Mondays, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. All holidays are subject to change without notice.
Directions:
By Car: From the 405 Freeway: Exit on to the 10 Freeway west into Santa Monica. Exit Fourth/Fifth Street staying in the left lane of the exit ramp. Turn left (south) at the end of the exit ramp onto fourth Street. Proceed south on fourth Street to Pico Boulevard and turn right (west). Go west on Pico Boulevard to Appian Way (crossing Ocean Avenue on the way). Turn right (north) onto Appian Way at the bottom of the hill. Proceed north on Appian Way towards the Santa Monica Pier. Turn left at stop sign under the pier ramp into the 1550 Lot.

The aquarium closes periodically for special events; please call before arriving to verify hours of operation.
